The Rising Sun Quest
The Rising Sun Quest started out in the rap game like many other rappers have, rhyming in lunch room cipher sessions in his hometown of Waterbury, Connecticut, aka the Dirty Water, and recording over his favorite rappers instrumentals. “I gained respect by always coming with punch lines that would have the crowd going wild,” Quest reminisces. It was a high school rhyming partner that gave him his name in freshmen year of high school. “He chose Rising Sun because it was the beginning and my boy was sure I was gonna fall in love with rhyming and rise like the sun does. The name was cool ‘cause I was gonna shine light on the game.”
Since that beginning, the Rising Sun Quest has been grinding hard to shine light on the often overlooked Connecticut hip hop scene, producing and distributing four solo releases, beginning with Stellar Evolution and including his most recent work Hydrostatic Equilibrium. Quest writes music about the complexities of life, his experiences and the everyday struggles that we all face. “There's nothing better than when someone tells me one of my songs helped them get through some hard times or that one of my tracks is their favorite.” Unwilling to follow the pop rap trends that come and go, Quest is determined to make music that is timeless. “We have so many artificial artists who are forced to fit an image. To me it’s a joke. Artists just follow what’s hot and base their whole style on it. I’m the opposite; I create music that will stay with you forever. In ten years you can play any of my CD's and they will still be relevant,” reflects Quest.
In addition to creating timeless music, the Rising Sun Quest has been winning over crowds with his timeless performances. Incorporating elements of b-boying and djing into his sets, as well as gaining a reputation as a fierce and funny freestyler, Quest performs in venues throughout Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. He has shared the stage with hip hop greats like Immortal Technique, Chubb Rock, DJ Evil D, Louis Logic, One Be Lo, Mr Lif, Jedi Mind Tricks, Sadat X, R.A. the Rugged Man, C-Rayz Walz, Homeboy Sandman, Diabolic, Joe Budden, and the Fearless Four. He is also one of the founding members of Connecticut’s powerhouse crew, the Ant Farm Affiliates, who have been making noise, performing regionally and growing a loyal fanbase for over four years.
Quest is also making noise on the airwaves and in the blogosphere. The song "Our Dreams" held the #1 spot four weeks straight on a Local Hip Hop countdown "In The Cypher" on Clearchannel’s top 40 station Kiss 95.7. His song “One of a Kind” debuted on Hartford’s # 1 hip hop station Hot 93.7 and Quest was named that station’s unsigned artist of the month in December of 2009. Quest is currently the top unsigned artist on the website CTmuzik.com and he is getting love from hip hop tastemakers on blogs and satellite radio including indiefeed.com and, most recently, Shade 45 radio.
The Rising Sun Quest makes music to move the crowd and connect with people. Because he transcends the trends and stays true to his roots as an artist, he doesn’t need to jump on the bandwagon; people are jumping on his. Don’t be late!
